Collaboration between our Graduate Medical Education and the DMC resident council, under the leadership of our Chief Medical Officer Dr. Suzanne White, M.D., has enabled a new internal medicine work lounge to open for its residents and students. It is located in Detroit Receiving Hospital, Unit 4S. It features five new computers, desk space and storage, a television, refrigerator, and sitting furniture.
The lounge is named in loving memory of the late Dr. Lavoisier Cardozo. For 36 years, Dr. Cardozo personified the ideals of what it means to be a physician, educator, and humanitarian. Wayne State University, the Detroit Medical Center, his patients and colleagues are forever indebted.
It has been well-received by the residents this far. “I think it’s great that our administration was able to give us this additional workspace,” says Ashly Ducharme, a PGY-II internal medicine resident. “It’s a fantastic hub, whether for patient care or just having that space to study.”
