The Detroit Medical Orchestra invites you to continue your generous support!
Since our beginning in 2009, the DMO’s mission to “bring healing through music” has been realized by presenting high-level classical concert performances in the heart of downtown Detroit performed by Detroit-area medical professionals – medical students, nurses, resident and attending physicians, and professionals from other health-allied fields. As such, there is no other community orchestra like the DMO in Michigan. The DMO performances have reached thousands of appreciative concert-goers. Concert donations benefit several central Detroit health and social initiatives such as the Robert R. Frank Student-Run Free Clinic, Cass Community Clinic, The Horizons Project and Clinic, the Detroit School of Arts, and others. The orchestra members are all volunteers, giving generously of their time and extraordinary talent.
And now the DMO has proudly announced its most ambitious and exciting concert program ever: the monumental ballet and orchestral concert work The Firebird by Igor Stravinsky. The performance will be produced by a highly-respected director and choreographer and will feature professional ballet soloists as well as dance students from Wayne State University and students from the Detroit School of Arts. High-energy rehearsals are going on now for this May 2015 performance. We have never done anything like this before and we can’t wait!
Creating a performance like this requires costumes, props, set design, and experienced stage personnel, and we believe strongly in paying guest artists for their work. So as you can imagine, the DMO is going pretty far out on a financial limb here – and that’s why we are calling on your support in this special way. We are counting on the same source of strong support that we’ve always had: many kind, generous contributors who appreciate the work we do. We have always managed our funds very carefully – and this concert is no different – but this time we need just a little bit more! By April 1, we hope to have raised $12,500 to cover the concert expenses.
And in keeping with our mission, all of the costumes and props together with a portion of donations accepted at the concert will be donated to the Detroit School of Arts to enhance the very fine programs of art development available for talented Detroit youth.
As always, as a DMO supporter you can be assured that:
- All your contributions stay local and directly benefit City of Detroit and nearby citizens and their charitable causes
- Your gifts add to the gifts that the members of the orchestra also generously provide (besides their talent and time!)
- Your DMO will continue to provide free public access to the people of Detroit to enjoy some of the world’s finest classical music
I truly hope that you will join our orchestra as we continue to strive towards bringing healing through music. Please mark your calendars to attend our concert at 4pm on May 3, 2015 at the Ford Auditorium in the Detroit School of Arts.
